I am a contemporary studio painter whose work is primarily concerned with identifying the key characteristics of a “successful” abstraction.

Drawing on the American, European, and increasingly Global painterly traditions, my work over the past five years has evolved to incorporate many expressive modes of application, material, and surface.

Though the achievement of novelty in my work has not been an unwelcome benefit, the chief purpose of my practice is to understand the primary mechanisms underpinning the activation of our emotional system to works of non-representational artwork.
